No Institute this Week

Because of the bad weather, the stake presidency has decided that all meetings should be canceled for today. Barring severe weather we will meet next week as scheduled.

A Snow Day Treat

Nothing warms you up on a cold day like some nice, warm nostalgia. A lot of us remember Johnny Lingo from our youth. If you remember it, I bring you an old friend. If you've never seen it, prepare for awesomeness.

Institute - Jan 22

Even without the promise of pizza, we had a great turnout on Thursday. Sister Hughes is thankfully getting over her pneumonia, and provided a lesson on the first 8 chapters of John. The evening started off with a wonderful Spiritual Thought from Lauren, and we continued to have material presented by C.J., Whitley, Ashley, Ben, and the newlywed Applegates. Thanks to everyone who presented material. If you were on the list to present but didn't get to, fear not. We will finish those up next week. Colonel's full picture spread can be found here.

Announcements:
  • FHE will be at David and Megean's house on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
  • Anyone interested in participating in the Repair Affair (April 4) to help low-income homeowners, please let us know at Institute on Thursday so we can get the group signed up. If you do sign up, please make every effort to be there.
  • Any t-shirt ideas should be directed to Lauren by Thursday.
  • If you are participating in any upcoming events or receive any awards, let Ben or me know so we can announce it here and in Institute.
  • With the exception of one week in April, we will be meeting in Eagle Meeting room for the remainder of the semester.
I hope everyone has a great week. Be careful in your travels, it looks like we'll be getting some serious winter weather this week. If any FHE, Institute, or Sunday meetings get canceled, we'll let everyone know as soon as possible. Thanks!

Note: For those wanting to comment, I apologize. I had a switch flipped in the settings requiring you to log in. That has been corrected. Now you may choose Name/URL and type in your name rather than having to have an account created. Sorry for the trouble.

First Institute of the Semester

The first Institute meeting of the Spring semester was last night. Despite the overwhelming cold, we had a great turnout. It was wonderful to see the usuals, some we hadn't seen in a while, and a few new faces. We were also joined last night by some of the graduating seminary students from the Owingsville ward. As Colonel said, the pizza probably helped.

Following the pizza, we got down to the lesson. As we had spent so much time eating and socializing, the lesson was a short one, but it set up what we will be studying over the next few weeks. Sister Hughes presented us with an introduction to John, discussing why the this book is different from the other Gospels. Next week we will begin with John Chapters 1-8, with several members of class preparing materials to present.

As always, Colonel had his camera snapping pictures. Several of them can be found here.

Family Home Evening will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday at the home of David and Megean. Our next Institute meeting will be at 7:00pm in the Eagle Meeting Room on the 3rd floor of ADUC. Hope to see everyone there.

Welcome to the Blog

With the Facebook group's lack of activity and only being available to those with Facebook accounts, Ben and I decided to resurrect the idea of a blog for LDSSA use. Email will still be our primary form of communication, but this will be an additional resource. We hope that this will serve as an informational portal where we can announce upcoming events, post summaries of activities, and have discussions about events and/or topics discussed in class.

In addition, this will be a place to recognize the achievements of our classmates, so if you have anything coming up or receive any kind of accolades, please let us know so we can inform the group. Also, if you have a blog or other website, we would really like to put it in our blogroll so that it can be shared with the group.
